Lets Face It – Advertising Is Everything

A couple of months ago I went into a store (wont say any names) to purchase myself a comfortable chair to sit at, at my desk, while I do my Internet marketing. There was no store clerk to help me at the time, so the manager of the store came to the chair department to help me. He apologized to me that he didnt know the slightest thing about chairs, when I asked him to help me. I was specific that I needed one that I could not only adjust up and down, but move the back rest forward and back. He suggested I come back again tomorrow.

But what he didnt know, was that “tomorrow” I was busy. I had to go out of town for a business trip for three days and I did not have time to come back tomorrow. He made sure to tell me that the chair sale would be over by the time I got back and that he could not extend the sale price for me if I chose any of these chairs 3 days later. To say the least, I walked out of the store without a chair, without service and a bad feeling about the whole experience. I remember making a mental note to never come back to this store.

To make a long story short, I just kept using the chair I had at home, the one without any armrests, but I was looking for a leather high back chair that would move both up and down, front and forward and have adjustable arm rests. I kept one eye open, so to speak, looking at chairs in every store I happened to be at. The chairs I saw were either way over priced or didnt have the features I wanted. I like to adjust my seating from time to time and I wanted to be able to rest my arms.

Then, the other day, I saw a piece of newspaper on my front lawn that looked like litter to me, so I went over to the paper to pick it up. To my surprise, there was an advertisement of the EXACT chair I wanted. It was black leather. It had arm rests; it moved front and back, up and down and the back rest adjusted. Also, it was on sale of a savings of over $80.00. Here was the exact chair I wanted and it would be on sale for the rest of the week.

The next day I went to the store and I purchased the chair. The young salesman was so polite to me. He showed me how I could easily put the chair together, or for a nominal price he could do it for me. It looked easy enough to put it together so I chose that option, but I had the problem of putting the big box in the front seat of my mustang. No problem, he assured me. They could deliver it free for me the very next morning. All I had to do was fill out some paper work with my address.

I left the store feeling happy to have found my chair, happy with the service I received, happy I did not have to fit that big box into my car and carry it out. I was a happy customer. I was very happy to have stumbled upon that advertising–even if it was in the form of litter on my front lawn. The wind must have blown it there. I realized then, that advertising is everything.

Without that advertisement, there was no way that I would have went to that particular store–because it was the very same store that I had originally went to. The only difference was, that I could not resist the offer. Here was the EXACT chair I wanted at a great price. Luckily for me I did not have to see or deal with that manager, who came across as inefficient, unhelpful and who blew me off.

But the young salesman made it up to me. He was so professional, so pleasant and efficient. He answered my questions. He showed me that this particular chair was easy to assemble, and how to assemble it if I chose that option. He even got me free delivery. What more could I have asked for
